Description
Introducing the X-Flare™ Digital AR15 Enhanced Flared Magwell
Designed to fit all Mil-Spec receivers without removing ANY parts from your lower. We created the Digital variant so that you can easily mark your caliber, name your rifle, or even communicate with your people. Caliber marking on a mil-spec receiver is a serious thing if you have ever been out to the range with friends and have something like a 300blk and a 556 AR and mags in the same area. That’s where this idea came from but it became very clear to us quickly that these are a great chance to have fun, express yourself and bring some life to your builds.
Back to serious specs….
Built Stronger, By Design
Not only is the X-Flare injection molded, we took these to an entire next level with the use of a custom compounded material frankly because we could. We also tooled up and sonic weld the brass inserts in place vs heat staking. No corners were cut here and this is hands down the best AR magwell on the planet!
Designed for the Modern Shooter
At XTech Tactical we firmly believe EVERYTHING has pros and cons. And the right choice for one is not for all. Let’s be clear on what we see as the cons for adding the X-Flare to your platform. #1. It’s not free. #2. It adds weight… 28.5 grams to be exact aka .0628 lbs or 1 oz.
Now for the Pros: #1. Improves loading dramatically, #2. Best value on the planet (less than popular printed options and way less than machined or Billet Receivers) #3. Looks great. #4. Installs in minutes
Duty-Ready Without the Downsides
The X-Flare is built for serious users that view their AR/M4 platform as tools for a job. No compromise period. If you can handle the cost at 1oz of weight then this is the ultimate accessory to upgrade your AR15.
Caliber Markings & What’s Coming Next
At launch we have the Digital version on this listing and the pre-marked 556 variant you can find here
The Why Behind the X-Flare™
The market for a tastefully designed AR 15 flared magwell has been well established for several years. While most of the options previously on the market do enhance the surface area for insertion and general look good, we were unable to find any that met the needs of our customers. We create products for hard use while offering a great value to the customer. Simply stated after buying everything we did, nothing checked the boxes for us.
The X-Flare is everything you would expect from XTech Tactical in that our AR15 flared magwell is ridiculously durable, the cost is the best in the market considering its durability, & installation is incredibly simple.
Issues with 3D Printed Solutions
Candidly, we are huge fans of 3D Printing and use it in mass production on most of our pistol magazine sleeves. The reason we use MJF for these sleeves is that it passes our checklist: #1 failure won’t take you out of the fight, #2 the sleeve does not receive the impact on any reasonable drop, #3 niche markets with a ton of variance needed for magazine sleeves compared to AR15 Mil-Spec. The advantage of 3D printing is no tooling cost which allows for a very low capital investment (low barrier to entry for the manufacture) and ease of making many variants. However, comparing 3D printing to a well executed injection molded part, the strength profile is exponentially improved with molding. The biggest issue with additive manufacturing compared to injection molding is impact strength and material stability. Injection molding a thermoplastic allows cross linking and control over the reinforcement glass fibers, whereas, 3D printing merely fuses particulars together with very limited control. The final issue with additive manufacturing for an AR15 magwell is the gritty textured surface that comes with MJF and SLS. By using injection molding we are able to have a smooth inside of the funnel and a great texture on the outside.
HRF Concepts was the first to our knowledge to make a mass production 3D printed magwell and has now inspired more manufacturers than we can keep track of to follow suit. These look the part but we don’t see a place for today’s 3D Printing/Additive manufacturing technology on an impact point of a battle rifle.
Issues with Aluminum Machined Solutions
Aluminum is obviously plenty strong for this application so lack of strength is a non-issue from the lens of durability. The biggest problems we encountered were fitment due to the lack of flex, weight being 2.5x more, and wearing off the finish on the lowers whether anodized or Cerakote. The final issue is the cost with the options we studied being well over 2x the cost of our X-Flare.
Why We Think Injection Molding Is the Best Solution
Injection molding wins on appropriate strength, features, and cost. Strength is exponentially stronger vs 3D printing / additive manufacturing, while also not risking damaging the weapon system like billet aluminum. The product weight is similar to the 3D Printed options while being half that of the aluminum options. Features and looks we could include had zero compromise. Finally, our production price once the tooling was paid for is better than both 3D printing or machining, so making the X-Flare in the US while giving our customers a great value is now a reality!
If the X-Flare AR15 Magwell flare fits loose on your receiver, we recommend some small strips of grip tape or electrical tape placed on the front surface of the inside of the magwell.
